PRADEEP KUMAR

Pradeep Kumar grew up in Narwana, India. Born deaf and partially mute, his father was determinate to give his son an education, having sensed Kumar’s innate talent from a very young age. He is presently employed as a clerk at the Punjab National Bank in Narwana.
Kumar developed his artistic skills without any formal training, making sketches and paintings when he felt isolated, and turning pieces of tin into elaborative figures reliefs.
Much of his two-dimensional work is made with blackboard chalk carved into carefully observed miniature sculptures. Kumar is most famous for his intricate matchstick works, carved with a razor blade, with colour added to accentuate the tiny details. These minute masterpieces, which include numerous birds and dressed men and women, have earned him much respect in India.
Kumar has been selected for a variety of awards for his contribution to the world of art and culture, including the Red and White Bravery Award for Courage; Haryana State Award and Best Handicapped Artist’s Award.

Pradeep Kumar è cresciuto a Narwana, India. Nonostante fosse nato sordomuto, suo padre decise di dare un’educazione al figlio riconoscendo in lui un talento innato sin da giovane età. Attualmente è impiegato presso la Punjab National Bank di Narwana.
Kumar ha sviluppato le sue doti artistiche da autodidatta, facendo schizzi e dipinti nei suoi momenti di solitudine e trasformando pezzi di latta in elaborate figure a rilievo.
I suoi lavori bidimensionali sono costituiti principalmente da gessetti da lavagna intagliati, vere e proprie sculture in miniatura.
Le sue opere più famose sono fiammiferi scolpiti con la lama del rasoio e colorati per accentuarne i dettagli. Questi minuti capolavori, che includono numerosi uccelli, uomini e donne vestiti, gli hanno fatto guadagnare un grande rispetto in India.
Kumar ha ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti per il suo contributo nel mondo dell’arte e della cultura, tra cui il Red and White Bravery Award for Courage, l’Haryana State Award e il Best Hanicapped Artist’s Award.
