PASCAL TASSINI

Pascal Tassini was born in Belgium in 1955 in a family of three children. He lived with his parents until they died, when one of his brothers took responsibility for him and sent him to the Créahm workshops in Liège in 1986.
Tassini began working with clay before trying his hand at drawing and painting. At the same time, he began stealing chairs and other material which he used to build a hut within the studio. Its structure changed constantly with the objects he was given as gifts and those he hunted around for. They were bound by a tangle of fabrics (his studio companions’ work clothes) all tied together. He welcomes visitors to his den on condition that they undergo a medical check-up. Presenting himself as Doctor Tassini and wearing a white coat, he takes their pulses and cures all ills.
For the past ten years, Tassini has worked only with textiles, switching between the clothes he makes, like brides’ dresses and headdresses, the decoration of his hut, and wrapping for objects such as those Judith Scott made.
He also writes letters consisting of the same letter of the alphabet repeated over and over. He signs off with two interlinked rings.

Pascal Tassini è nato in Belgio nel 1955 da una famiglia di tre figli. Ha vissuto con i genitori fino alla loro morte, momento nel quale uno dei suoi fratelli ha iniziato a mandarlo ai workshop Créahm di Liegi, dal 1986.
Tassini ha incominciato a lavorare con l’argilla, prima ancora di sperimentare pittura e disegno. Allo stesso tempo ha iniziato a rubare sedie ed altri materiali usandoli per costruire capanne nello studio. Le sue strutture cambiano costantemente in base agli oggetti che gli vengono donati o che trova in giro; questi vengono legati tra loro da un groviglio di tessuti (abiti da lavoro dei suoi compagni di studio). Tassini accoglie i visitatori nella sua tana a condizione che essi subiscano un check-up medico. Presentandosi come il dottor Tassini, vestito di un camice bianco, registra i loro battiti e ne cura tutti i mali.
Negli ultimi dieci anni, Tassini ha lavorato esclusivamente con tessuti, passando dalla creazione di abiti e acconciature da spose, a decorazioni per la sua capanna, al confezionamento di oggetti molto simili ai lavori di Judith Scott.
Inoltre scrive lettere in cui è presente una singola lettera dell’alfabeto ripetuta più volte. Firma poi con due anelli interconnessi.
