BRUNO MONTPIED
(1954 | FRANCE)

Bruno Montpied was born in 1954 in Boulogne-sur-Seine. He now lives in Paris where he makes a living as a monitor of extracurricular school activities. At the age of twenty he was inspired by surrealism and he began painting and drawing three years later after meeting Asger Jorn and the COBRA movement. His first exhibition was held at the Galerie l’Usine in Paris. An erudite and passionate lover of Folk and Outsider Art since the ’80s, he was collected extensive documentation on self-taught artists, advocating on their behalf and inviting controversy in the different journals he founded (La Chambre Rouge, L’Art Immé Diat). His poetic and visionary artwork uses a variety of techniques: acrilyc, ballpoint pen, ink,… He maintains an internet blog he created in June 2007, Le Poignard Subtil. In the spring of 2011, he published a book devoted to his research on spontaneous environments, Eloge des Jardins Anarchiques or a tribute to anarchic gardens.
